The Return of the Strap-Ons. With Big Bobby & the Nightcaps, The Lonely Teardrops, & Tornado Bait

It's been close to twenty years since I last saw them, but the Strap-Ons still bring the thunder. Brian Diederich is every bit as dangerous a front man as he was in the band's heyday, and those in attendence were treated to some honest-to-god punk rock. You learn something new every day, and I discovered that Msesippi McQuown of Tornado Bait actually got her start with the Strap-Ons.

Big Bobby and the Nightcaps tested the limits of how many the Taphouse stage can handle, with a tour-de-force extra-long set that blew the doors off. The Lonely Teardrops showcased Katie Teardrop's sound and fury before she took up her spot in the Strap-Ons line-up for the closing set. Looks to me like a new cast of characters backing her up. The group has relocated RVA and honestly, our hometown is poorer for the loss. Tornado Bait kicked things off with a singular set of rockabilly/grunge tinged bluegrass.

All in all, it was a glorious night that fanned the dying embers of 2019 into a furious bonfire. If you missed it, be sad.
