“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.” ― Dwight D. Eisenhower

Over three thousand protesters led by Hampton Roads' students marched in support of common sense gun reform yesterday. Speakers expressed solidarity with the Parkland school shooting survivors, and called out the names of recent victims who have lost their lives to senseless gun violence -- including a young Norfolk resident who was killed just last week. The march began slightly before 1PM after a gathering that took place at noon near Nauticus. It followed a peaceful and orderly progression down Waterside Drive to Granby St, looping back around and then down Boush St. before concluding back at its starting spot with a closing ceremony.
